Cherry Mobile Flare X2 full review: The phone is a stunner!

Cherry Mobile Flare X2

Cherry Mobile's Flare lineup has proven to be a success ever since it launched in 2009. It is undoubtedly one of CM's cash cows and CM has recognized that by continuing to give us more of these smartphones. People loved the flare series for a reason. It combined great specs with awesome pricing and also offered the consumers a bountiful of variations to choose from. Today I have my hands on CM's newest smartphone –CM Flare X2. Is it worthy to bear the name of the Flare series? I guess we'll have to find out.

Cherry Mobile Flare X2 specs and Price:

  • 1.4GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 octa-core processor
  • Adreno 505 GPU
  • 4GB of RAM
  • 5.5-inch full HD IPS display, Dragon Trail glass protection (front and back), 1920 x 1080 resolution
  • 32GB of storage, expandable via microSD
  • 16-megapixel rear camera with BSI, AF, LED flash
  • 8-megapixel front camera
  • Dual SIM
  • 3G, LTE
  • WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS, A-GPS, fingerprint scanner
  • 3000mAh battery
  • Android 6.0 Marshmallow
  • Php 7,999

IT LOOKS AWESOME!

The phone literally screams eye candy. At the front you'll find the beautiful full HD IPS 5.5-inch display, the 8-megapixel camera and the earpiece neatly presented in a minimalist and straightforward layout. Not to mention, the side bezels are so thin that it seems as if it fades in to the corners.

CM Flare X2 sports a dual Dragontail glass protection from front to back. Which means the back panel is also made of glass like the original Xperia smartphones. A lot of people would think that this makes the phone more fragile but believe me, I dropped this phone one too many times and I don't see a single crack. The good news is, it comes with a matte screen protector out of the box so you don't have to worry about scratches.

You'll also find the 16-megapixel shooter at the back along with the fingerprint scanner. The placement of the scanner was on point. It was easy to reach, not to mention it's fast and almost always works the first time I scan my finger. (I have sweaty hands and sometimes it takes a while for the device to scan it)

The sim card tray pops out at the side and has room for additional micro-SD card storage or a dual-sim configuration. The storage expandability is a big plus for me because I don't think I can live with just 32gigs of onboard storage. I need a place to hoard all my photos and data not to mention, I use my phone to download torrents. The aluminum side panel gives it a nice touch. The build quality is on point. Overall, the device felt really solid and premium.

THE CAMERA IS KINDA OKAY

The 16-megapixel shooter performed well in good lighting conditions and did okay in low-light situations. Images produced are of decent quality and sharpness with natural colors. The auto-focus was relatively fast but its a bit glitchy at times. I hope they fix this with over-the-air software updates. The camera didn't perform astronomically but for the price I could say that it performs a lot better than other Samsung smartphones at this price point.

IT PACKS POWER!

CM Flare X2 is packed with a Snapdragon 430 octa-core processor and its no slouch when it comes to gaming and multitasking. I've thrown every high intensity game I could. Deadtrigger, NBA 2K17, Death Dome, Real Racing --you name it, the phone was smooth as silk. The octa-core processor and 4gigs of ram proved to be an excellent combination. Not to mention, games look glorious on the 1080p screen.

Cherry Mobile Flare X2

The phone runs well on top of Android Marshmallow 6.0. Running with a Snapdragon SoC means that the possibility of updates is more likely compared to a Mediatek SoC. It means that you probably won't be stuck with one version of Android over the life of the phone.

BATTERY LIFE IS GREAT

At first I thought the 3000mah battery wouldn't cut it for the beefy specs and the Full HD screen. I was wrong. It has enough juice to last a whole day of intense usage. I use my phone a lot and it amazed me when I went home from school one day and it still had about 40% battery left. Also, Snapdragon's quick charge technology is awesome. It charges the battery from 0 to 100% in about 1 hour and 45 minutes.

VERDICT!

I've had this phone for almost 2 months now and it's performing really well. The 4G LTE is a big plus, especially now that more and more LTE hotspots are sprouting across the archipelago. It offers premium specs at a price that wouldn't cost you an arm and a leg. It has the inner workings of a high end smartphone packed in a premium body. It's a well balanced and reasonably priced smartphone. I would definitely recommend it!
